How do "night bulbs" work?

Reptiles cannot see the red light, therefore it is just a heat lamp and a way for you to see the animal. I'm not sure about sugar gliders however, I would think that it wouldnt bother them, but ZooMed also makes a blue nocturnal heat bulb that might work. If neither of those work for heating, there is also a ceramic heat bulb that gives off no light, just heat and lasts for a very long time.
