What to do if a dog is afraid of storms?

My dog, Luke is also terrified of storms. We actually took him to the vet and now when ever a storm comes we give him puppy anxiety medicine and he actually gets ten times better. Wanna know why MY dog was afraid. My old great granny accidentally left him out in a t-storm when she was dog-sitting him as a puppy. I was furious.
