What specific products do I use to die/highlight my hair?

Ok a friend of mine used to die chunks of my hair blonde (I have naturally brown hair). I know that we used a packet of this powder and a liquid/gel type product, mixed in a bowl, applied it w/a brush and I think she used the foils, also. HOWEVER I no longer talk to this friend so I can't ask her what those specific products were. She said she found out what they were thru a beauty school dropout lol. Oh yeah, and we got the prodcuts from Sally's, a local beauty supply store. Can you help??
